The outlook is bright for anyone looking for a career in healthcare! There is a growing need for health care workers both in the United States and around the world. Studies show that the United States will need more than 1 million doctors and nurses and more than 3.2 million additional health care workers in other roles within the next 5 years to meet demand.
There are many different careers in healthcare, both patient care-related and non-patient care-related. After all, hospitals and clinics are also businesses. This page will give you some tools and resources to start exploring potential careers in healthcare.

Choosing your experience: FAQs
Yes. It often makes sense to do more than one experience, either on the same day or months or years later. For example, you may want to job shadow more than one staff person to experience more than one type of career. You may also benefit from an interview in middle school and want to volunteer once you turn fourteen. Perhaps your job shadow experience helps you know that you’ve chosen the right career path, and you come back to Upland Hills Health to seek out observation hours during your post-high school training.
Some experiences will require vaccinations or tests. For example, a job shadow will require proof of MMR, Tdap and influenza vaccinations. Longer observation hours or clinical experiences will require additional vaccinations or tests. Tours and most other experiences do not require vaccines.
Yes, absolutely. A job shadow lets you experience more of a person’s day-to-day activities in their job, but if a phone or email interview works better for you, we offer that option as well. This is a great option for those in middle school or not yet 16 years old.
Upland Hills Health partners with local schools to host group tours at Upland Hills Health, to bring speakers into the school to talk about their career or visit schools during job and career fairs. We also provide interviewing opportunities for those in middle school or older, and volunteer opportunities at the hospital for those 14 and older.
