True Digital Mammography and 3D Mammography are available!
Every radiology technician at Upland Hills Health is a registered mammography technician. Our team receives the highest level of training of any imaging team in southwest Wisconsin.
What should I expect during my 3D mammography exam?
The technologist will view the images of your breasts at the computer workstation to ensure quality images have been captures. A radiologist will then examine the images and report the results to your physician, or directly to you.
Why choose 3D?
The 3D exam detects 41% more invasive breast cancers and reduces false positives by up to 40%. This means one simple thing… it is more accurate.
- It allows doctors to see masses and distortions associated with cancers more clearly than 2D mammography.
- Very low x-ray energy is used during the exam
- With early detection the five-year survival rate is almost 100%.
Will my insurance cover 3D?
Insurance plans are beginning to cover 3D mammography but not all have the coverage in place. Additional fees or charges may apply if your insurance company does not provide coverage for 3D mammography. Talk to your primary care provider about your options and check with your insurance plan for coverage when planning whether you will schedule a 2D or 3D mammography exam.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
Upland Hills Health has expanded its health and wellness services available to women with the addition of stereotactic breast biopsy services in our Imaging Department.
This simple and safe procedure is a state-of-the-art system designed to improve the quality, accuracy, and ease of breast biopsies. The system uses advanced computer-assisted technology, known as digital stereotactic localization, to map the precise location of a breast abnormality before a tissue sample is taken for biopsy. Tissue samples are obtained through a very small incision in the skin, minimizing procedure time, and healing time. Stereotactic biopsy offers:
-
- A faster, more cost-effective way to perform this procedure
- No general anesthesia
- No sutures
- A shorter recovery time
- Less scarring
- Minimal discomfort
What does this mean to women in Iowa County?
Gregg A. Bogost, M.D., President of Madison Radiologists explained, “Women no longer have to travel to receive this method of breast biopsy, which is considered the most accurate technology available for breast disease diagnosis. It is minimally invasive, requires only local anesthesia with no sutures or operating room procedures.” Lynette Collins, Director of Imaging Services at Upland Hills, said “We are very happy to provide this simple and safe procedure. There is minimal discomfort and this system is highly accurate.
