Honerbaum Honored for “Attitude”
Katherine (Kathy) Honerbaum, a nurse in the Emergency Department at Upland Hills Health was recently presented with the Lisa Faherty-Bilse Memorial “Attitude is Everything” Motivational Nursing Award. This award is presented to an Upland Hills Health nurse who best exemplifies the traits that the award celebrates about Lisa’s life and her contributions to Upland Hills Health.
The award literally came as a surprise to Honerbaum. On May 19, co-workers in the Emergency Department at Upland Hills Health created a scheme to lead Honerbaum to believe she was entering a room to treat a patient. Instead the room was filled with family and co-workers who had arrived to witness the presentation of the award.
Honerbaum was nominated by co-workers and Emergency Department Director, Patty Hinderman, who stated that “Kathy personifies the words “care giver.” When she steps into a room to perform her duties, her patients are at once reassured about any condition they may be facing. She has an attitude of friendliness, compassion, loyalty and professionalism that is second to none.” Honerbaum’s nursing career spans 50 years and her work has included: pharmacy resource nurse, private care nurse, clinic nurse, hospice and home care nurse, the Director of the Dean Perfusion Center, oncology clinic nurse, emergency and most recently she serves as nurse for the newly created Perfusion and Infusion Center at Upland Hills Health.
Lynn Hebgen, Vice President of Nursing was on hand to announce the award and noted that Honerbaum has served multiple generations and is as comfortable caring for a newborn as she is with elderly patients. She is a highly respected and recognizable face within the community. She diligently maintains licensure in all areas of nursing pertinent to the Infusion Center and Emergency Department, including ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS to name a few of her many certifications.
Honerbaum also demonstrates her commitment to community through her devotion to her family, work at the local food kitchen and her involvement in P.E.O. a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women. Her co-workers noted, “She truly exemplifies Lisa’s philosophy that “Attitude is Everything” because she has the very best of attitudes. She stands out as the person who will go the extra mile for her patients, as well as the team she is working with.”
