UHH Recognized for Efforts to Improve Cardiac and Stroke Care
Upland Hills Health Hospital and Clinics has received two American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline achievement awards for demonstrating a commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.
Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack. Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.
Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline put the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence-based and research-based guidelines. As a participant in Mission: Lifeline and Get With The Guidelines programs, Upland Hills Health qualified for the awards by demonstrating how their organization has committed to improving quality care.
“We have a terrific team of health professionals in our hospital who work in collaboration with our area EMS teams. Together, they provide high-quality care to give our patients the best chance of survival and the highest possible quality of life,” said Upland Hills Health President and CEO Lisa Schnedler. “I’m proud of our ER staff for their commitment to providing outstanding care and for achieving this level of excellence.”
The award is based on UHH scores on seven guideline-directed care metrics each for severe heart attacks. Recognition as a STEMI Referring Center is designed to showcase hospitals of every size on the front lines of care that do not have 24/7 cardiac catheterization lab availability but work in collaboration with emergency medical services (EMS) to ensure patients receive guideline-directed heart attack care.
